Drone Delivery Challenge!

Topic: Physics

Grade: 6

In Drone Delivery Challenge!, Grade 6 students imagine how drones could help their communities, then design a delivery system to make it happen. Learners explore forces, motion, and flight through hands-on tests and an egg drop challenge, using their findings to plan and refine a safe drone delivery solution. The module includes classroom-ready lesson plans, student handouts, and assessment ideas. Along the way, students collaborate, solve problems, and pitch creative delivery ideas that show how STEM can be used to care for their communities.

Circuits of Care

Topic: Electricity

Grade: 6

In Circuits of Care, Grade 6 students use electricity and storytelling to spotlight celebrations that matter to them. Learners explore series and parallel circuits, then design a light-up greeting card using copper tape, LEDs, and a battery. Each card honors a festival or tradition that is often less visible in Canada. As students plan, build, test, and improve their designs, they deepen their understanding of circuits while using STEM to celebrate culture, community, and care.

Slip or Grip - New Offering!

Topic: Physics

Grade: 6

In Slip or Grip, Grade 6 students investigate friction by designing and testing a shoe sole. Learners explore how different materials and textures affect grip and sliding, then use their data to recommend a sole design for specific everyday situations. The module includes classroom-ready lesson plans, student worksheets, and options to adapt for different contexts. Students plan fair tests, analyze results, and communicate their design decisions while connecting physics concepts to footwear they use in their own lives and communities.

Taste the Chill

Topic:

Grade: 7

In Taste the Chill, Grade 7 students explore states of matter and heat transfer by investigating ice cream. Learners test how different ingredients and conditions affect temperature, texture, and taste, then use evidence to explain what is happening at a particle level. Students pitch their unique ice cream creations in a Dragon’s Den–style format. The module includes classroom-ready lesson plans, student handouts, and extension ideas that connect science concepts to foods and experiences from students’ own communities.

Friendlier Fuels

Topic: Life Sciences & Chemistry

Grade: 7

In Friendlier Fuels, Grade 7 students investigate how tiny living organisms can power big ideas. Learners mix warm water, yeast, and different “fuel” ingredients, then observe how gas production inflates balloons. Using simple measurements and comparisons, they explore how changing materials or conditions affects the reaction. As they test, record, and interpret results, students connect life science and chemistry concepts to real-world questions about energy, food systems, and more sustainable futures.

Speed Lab - New Offering!

Topic: Physics and Sports

Grade: 7

In Speed Lab, Grade 7 students step into the role of sports engineers. Their mission is to design and test a tabletop mini-launcher that propels a lightweight “athlete” as far or as accurately as possible. As they plan, build, test, and improve their designs, students explore how force, friction, angle, and trajectory affect motion. Using simple materials, they experiment, collect data, and iterate to boost performance. Along the way, they connect physics concepts to real sports moments and see how science helps athletes go faster, farther, and more accurately.

Viral Stories

Topics: Coding, Communication, and Critical Thinking

Grade: 8

In Viral Stories, Grade 8 students create a public awareness story they want to spread. Learners explore how messages travel through communities, then design a “go viral” campaign about an issue they care about. Using coding tools, they build simple interactive stories, animations, or prototypes that bring their message to life. The module includes classroom-ready lesson plans, student handouts, and prompts that connect STEM, media, and community care. Students practice coding, communication, and critical thinking while seeing how STEM can shape the stories people notice and share.

Bot Brains - New Offering!

Topic: Robotics and Automation

Grade: 8

In Bot Brains, Grade 8 students explore how machines sense, decide, and act. Learners design and test simple “bots,” experiment with inputs and outputs, and use coding or rule-based systems to give their bots a “brain.” The module includes classroom-ready lesson plans, student guides, and options for unplugged and device-based activities. Students practice problem solving, debugging, and iterative design while connecting robotics and automation to their own lives, communities, and futures in STEM.

FutureBuilders - New Offering!

Topic:

Grades: 6–8

In FutureBuilders, students explore the world of skilled trades by stepping into the role of junior inventors. Learners` choose a trade, identify a real problem someone in that job might face, and design a simple tool using classroom-safe, recyclable materials. As they plan, build, test, and improve their ideas, students think about safety, efficiency, and usability. They see how STEM, creativity, and hands-on problem solving come together to support the people who build, repair, and care for our communities.

Hair & Hustle: Hair Science - New Offering!

Topic: Physics, Particle Theory

Grades: 6–8

In Hair & Hustle, Grades 6–8 students connect particle theory and properties of matter to haircare, identity, and product design. Learners step into the role of trichologists and entrepreneurs, using science concepts to design and pitch a haircare product in a Dragon’s Den–style format. The module is rooted in students’ lived experiences of hair, culture, and care routines, and is designed to support belonging, competence, and agency while making chemistry feel relevant and powerful in their everyday lives.

STEM Youth Kits

STEM Youth Kits are designed for use in programs and classrooms where students work directly with Visions of Science staff or partners. Each kit includes materials and instructions for a specific module, so every student can participate in hands-on investigations and design challenges. Youth Kits are packed and ready for individual use or groups, helping you focus on relationship building and facilitation instead of sourcing supplies. These kits are ideal for in-school workshops, after-school programs, and community-based STEM sessions that center identity, lived experience, and real-world problem solving.

STEM Teacher Bins

STEM Teacher Bins give educators everything they need to run a full module with their entire class. Each bin includes enough materials for up to 25 students to participate in the investigations or design challenges, plus a teacher guide with step-by-step instructions and tips for equitable, inquiry-based facilitation. Teacher Bins are a good fit if you want to lead one of our modules yourself, adapt it to your context, or extend learning over multiple lessons. They support classroom teachers, instructional coaches, and school-based STEM leads.

STEM-at-Home Kits

STEM-at-Home Kits are designed for students and families to explore STEM together beyond the classroom. Each kit includes materials, a simple activity guide, and prompts that invite caregivers and youth to experiment, talk, and reflect together. Activities connect STEM concepts to everyday life, culture, and community, and can align with the modules students are experiencing at school or in programs. These kits are ideal for family engagement events, take-home learning, and supporting caregivers who want to nurture curiosity and confidence in STEM at home.
