Fueling STEM Futures: Sara’s story
Every STEM journey begins with a spark. Growing up in Regent Park, Sara had a natural passion for health and science, but lacked the resources and a vessel to really foster her passion. That's where Visions of Science came in, providing the fundamental programming and mentorship she yearned for.
Sara started at Visions of Science as a participant, becoming a volunteer, and later, a paid program facilitator; a journey that has transformed her confidence. “Working as a program facilitator at Visions shows me how I’ve come full circle.”
Sara leveraged Visions of Science support through diverse internships and scholarship assistance to attend Queen’s University for Health Sciences. “My mentors have done so much for me,” Sara says.
“My family couldn’t afford tuition on our own…[Visions] helped me apply for the RBC Future Launch scholarship…they’re really a big part of who I am and where I am today.”

Now, Sara is actively fueling the next generation of STEM futures in her communities, as a campus ambassador at Queen’s, while also working with Visions of Science. She brings her university experience and career knowledge back to youth, connecting STEM lessons to real life, showing them you can integrate what you learn here into what you want to do in the future.
“I want [youth] to understand that they have the potential to do anything.”
